V0.7.5 – The Performance and Security Update

This platform is built on top of WordPress…don’t get me wrong, I love WordPress and I think it is a powerful tool to quickly build a website, but let’s be honest…It is not created to do this and I am kinda misusing it 😛

The performance was terrible and I tried to get it to an acceptable level with everything I could do. I upgraded the server, which is still a shared host, but it is doing okay for now. With more users I will be forced anyway to rent a whole server to handle everything which will cost a lot more money. I will have to figure out how to  solve that…

The problem with bad software is that you have to get exponentially more power to get a decent working environment, but there will be one bottleneck that will break your neck. I optimized WordPress the best I could and it showed some great improvements. I managed to get it load in around 6 seconds (from 20+), which is a pretty decent and acceptable. Anyhow, the site is way faster than it was 2 weeks ago and I managed to do other stuff like SSL and a new domain.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client, which means that everything you send to the server is encrypted now 😉

In case you haven’t seen it yet…the website is now https://GuitarChallengeAcademy.com which is easier to remember and gives it a more serious appearance 😀 (challenge.etecc.eu still works, cause the server redirects you to the right domain)
